1st Grade Basketball: Tips on Coaching

Coaching 1st grade basketball can be a huge challenge. It is important to have the players use smaller balls (youth size), shoot on lower hopes, and play with less the 5 players on a team. It can be hectic, but we highly recommend that each player have a ball to maximize repetitions.

There are so many resources for basketball, however very little for the younger grades. Over the next several weeks and months, we will be posting some drills and ideas that might be useful. We would love your feedback. For additional information, please visit our coaching youth basketball page.

Oakland Baptist Basketball Season Begins #obcbiddy #obcbasketball

OBC Basketball Begins Soon! Sign Ups are Online Now Church league basketball games begin the first week in January. Practices will begin over the next two weeks. You can sign up now by clicking HERE. Registration fees are $20 for Biddy (K-4th) teams and $30 for all older teams. You will have the option to pay online or bring a check to the church office. Please sign up as soon as possible so that we will know how many teams we will need in each division. Biddy Practice Begins Next Tuesday at 6pm All Biddy (K-4th) players will meet for practice in the OBC gym next Tuesday, November 19 from 6:00-7:00pm. At the end of practice, players will be divided into teams. Please make every effort to be at practice so that the coaches can organize the teams in the best possible way. Coaches Needed If you are interested in coaching in the Biddy league, please contact Jim Vining. If you are interested in coaching any of the older teams, please contact Jason Freeman or David Brown.

Oakland Baptist Church Basketball Banquet on March 19 #obcbiddy

Basketball Banquet March 19 at 6pm The OBC Basketball Banquet will take place on Tuesday, March 19 at 6:00pm in the Gym. We will recognize each team and watch a slideshow of highlights from the season. Menu: Pizza, Salad, Dessert and Drinks. Coaches, players, and children under 5 are free. All other guests pay $5. Please register and pay online HERE. Please send pictures of your team in action to Shelby Howle by March 13.

Biddy games that were postponed from January will be played next Friday, March 1, at the original times and sites with the exception of games scheduled at Ebenezer. Ebenezer's scheduled games location and times are yet to be determined.

Oakland Baptist Biddy Practice Schedule Changes Tuesday #obcbiddy

With the addition of another Combined Biddy Team, the Tuesday practice line up will change. The Doyle/Maness and Baker/Estes teams will practice between 5:30 pm and 6:15 pm. The Howle/Vining and Ullrich/Shelton teams will practice between 6:15 pm and 7:00 pm.

Oakland Baptist Biddy Games Start Friday

This schedule is good as of January 1st, 2013. The schedule has already been changed a couple of times. The official schedule will be at the league web site which you can get by clicking here. For the under 7, Howle and Vining are OBC A and Ullrich and Shelton are OBC B. For the 8 and 9, Freeman is the OBC team. For the combined, Doyle and Maness are OBC A and Estes and Baker are OBC B.
